TRINA JOSDAL as Birdie
Writer, Producer, Assistant Director, Choreographer
Trina Josdal, originally from Moose Jaw, SK, found her passion for tap dancing under the guidance of Barb Jackman during her early years. Influenced by a dance philosophy grounded in the essence of jazz music and a deep appreciation for swing rhythms, Trina undertook a transformative journey in 2002, relocating to New York City. Fully dedicated to the pursuit of her passion for tap dance, this marked a significant chapter in her artistic journey.
Amidst a European tour with “Magic of the Dance,” Trina had the privilege of collaborating with exceptional tap dancers, exposing her to the historical tapestry of the art form. A pivotal moment came about when she discovered an audition for the esteemed musical “42nd Street,” directed by Marc Bramble, in Toronto. Seizing the opportunity, Trina made her inaugural visit to the city that would eventually become her home.
Subsequent to the conclusion of the “42nd Street” Asian tour, Trina Josdal made Toronto her permanent residence, where she currently resides with her family. Her dream of giving back to the community as an instructor, creator, and performer has become a reality, allowing her to continue her artistic journey.
Trina, together with co-creator Amy Lintunen, lead Vintage Taps—a tap dance company with a background of meaningful projects. A notable highlight for Vintage Taps was crafting the original tap dance musical “The Laundry List,” which played to sold-out shows and won the Spirit of Fringe award in 2019. Recently, they hosted tap dance legend Jane Goldberg from NYC in Toronto for a weekend of workshops and documentaries and produced the original show “Jane Goldberg: Tales of a Tap Goddess.” Vintage Taps has also curated numerous Speakeasy shows, highlighting the captivating connection between tap dancing and jazz music. Vintage Taps has exciting projects lined up, so stay tuned and follow along @vintagetaps to see what’s coming up!
