MICHAEL LOUIS JOHNSON as the Narrator
Trumpet & Vocals
Original Song: Birdie Watcher
A performer in Toronto since 1990, Michael Louis Johnson spent seven years as right-hand-man to SwingPunk sensation, Big Rude Jake, before forming his own jazz trio, Michael J's Dimestore Orchestra, which enjoyed a three year residency at the Cameron House. By 2003, his creativity became protest-minded, leading to co-founding Pedestrian Sundays in Kensington Market and the birth of his band, The New Kings.
These days, when not touring the globe w/ Lemon Bucket Orkestra, MLJ is a notorious busker and bartender, (NOW Mag Best Bartender, 2013). He leads the ArtSpin, playing trumpet while riding his bicycle, is the creator of popular vinyl night, Dcide on the Bside, fronts the giant improv brass band Rambunctious, and holds a weekly jazz residency at the Communist's Daughter since 2003.
He has appeared on numerous recordings over the decades, both of his own projects and as a guest on others. His most recent release is a solo EP (2017), Half Moon, Half Crazy. His film and theatre credits include: Absolutely the Last Supper, 1992 smash hit at Montreal & Toronto Fringe (actor, playright), Lady Speak Easy, 2001, a jazz musical about Billie Holiday that garnered much acclaim at La MaMa ETC in NYC (actor and music director), Counting Sheep, 2016, Guerilla Folk Opera with Lemon Bucket Orkestra about the Maidan Revolution in Ukraine, (actor/musician, 2 Dora awards, multiple awards at Edinburgh Fringe, tours in Germany, Ireland, England, New York and California); lastly of note, his role as the much hated Officer Norton in 1998 Hollywood blockbuster, Bride of Chucky.
